The Canadian Dove Association’s 29th Annual Show & Sale was held on November 29th, 2008 in the Oxford Auditorium on the Woodstock, Fairgrounds in conjunction with the 38th Specialty Pigeon Show. There were numerous fanciers visiting our section throughout the day asking questions about keeping doves, and about the doves that were exhibited in the show. This year we had seven exhibitors showing a total of 75 entries - 21 Ring Neck Doves shown in 16 different mutations; 35 Diamond Doves shown in 9 different mutations; 12 Doves were shown in the section for Senegal Doves and Smaller in 7 species, 7 Doves were shown in 4 species in the section of the show for Doves Larger than Senegal Doves, and 4 doves were shown in the Junior section of the show.
The Champion Dove was an Old Male Senegal Dove shown by Bernie Van Erp, Parkhill, Ontario. The Reserve Champion Dove was an Young Male Blue Diamond Dove shown by Rae Smart, London, Ontario. The Young Male Blue Diamond Dove won the Bill and Jane Jansen Memorial Award as the Best 2008 Dove in the show for Rae Smart. In the Junior Section of the show, Hunter and Axel House, Innerkip, Ontario won Champion Junior Dove with an Old Male White Ring Neck Dove.
The Best Ring Neck Dove was a Old Female White shown by John House, Plattsville, Ontario, and the Reserve Ring Neck Dove was a Old Female Orange Pearled also shown by John House.
Best Diamond Dove was an Young Male Blue shown by Rae Smart, and the Reserve Diamond Dove was a Old Female Red shown by Bernie Van Erp.
Best Dove in the section for Senegal Doves and Smaller was an Old Male Senegal Dove shown by Bernie Van Erp, and the Reserve in this section was an Old Male Masked Dove shown by Wiebe Horinga, Woodstock, Ontario.
Best Dove exhibited in the section for Doves Larger than Senegal Doves was an Old Male Australian Crested shown by Bernie Van Erp, and the Dove selected as the Reserve in this section was an Young Male Australian Crested Pigeon also shown by Bernie Van Erp.
This year our judge was Dave House, Innerkip, Ontario, and clerking was Ken Becker, Bayfield, Ontario, and Bernie van Erp was our auctioneer for the donated items. The Association would also like to say "Thank You" to these members, and to the suppliers and members who donated items of interest for the auction, which raised $260.00. Thank you for your generous support and contributions! The members then went to the Bamboo Restaurant for dinner, and some relaxing, prior to taking down the show.
